AboutFace has been approached by a director of a film called 'Happy Face' and is looking for individuals 18+ with a facial difference to get together in a supportive environment to participate in an acting workshop. They have hired an acting coach  to run the workshop and it will be a fun time for all. The director and co-writer of 'Happy Face' is Alexandre Franchi.  His short 'Troll Concerto' screened at TIFF in 2015 and sold internationally. Other award-winning shorts include Terminal Venus (2003) and Fata Morgana (2002).   He also created the story based on a personal experience.  Alexandre is looking for participants in the workshop who may be interested in acting in his film.  There will be more details available at the time of the event. (Fun Fact: AboutFace community member David Roche has already been cast to star in 'Happy Face'). *Note: by participating in this event, you are not agreeing to participate in the film. The social event is open to anyone aged 18+ with a facial difference, regardless of whether you have any desire to act in the movie or not. Hope to see you there!! ‘Light Up the Night’ Fashion Show & Gala

October 28, 2016 / 6:00 pm / Brampton

Light Up the Night is the first annual AboutFace Fashion Show and Gala Dinner that aims to promote beauty through diversity, uniqueness and confidence. Light Up the Night will help build awareness about facial differences, but more importantly, it will create a forum for individuals with facial differences to share their confidence and beauty with the public. The goal of this event is to cultivate a culture of diversity and acceptance about facial differences and empowering everyone to stand tall and to be proud of our uniqueness.  The Fashion industry is one of popular culture’s most desired professions and a dream of many young women and men. Although fashion allows for outlandish individual expression, creativity and flare, it is also one of the most difficult industries to break into. There is a very strong undercurrent and expectation of physical perfection. This attitude is slowly changing and we are encouraging  our community to pursue dreams of walking the runway for a great cause. All models of the Light Up the Night Fashion Show will be individuals with facial differences. We will use hair, make-up and clothes to express personal styles and interests. This will allow for individuals to ‘light up the night’ with uniqueness. Light Up The Night will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016, at The Pearson Convention Center, 2638 Steeles Avenue East, Brampton Ontario from 6-11pm. JOIN US - CLICK HERE
