Camp Volunteer Job Descriptions

We have the following volunteer jobs available for our camp programming: camp counsellor, camp nurse, and camp photographer. Please see the description for each role below and follow the link to apply for any position.

 

Camp Counsellor – Camp Trailblazers and Family Camps

AboutFace a national charity supporting individuals and families affected by facial differences.
Our mission is to promote and enhance the emotional and mental well-being of individuals with
facial differences and their families through social and peer support, information, educational
programs, and public awareness. Our programs and services aim to encourage and empower the
facial difference community, families, friends, and allies while providing educational resources
and public awareness campaigns.

AboutFace is looking for passionate, energetic, and reliable volunteers to take on swimming,
archery, smores, and camp songs at Camp Trailblazers and Family Camp. If you love CAMP and
have a passion for supporting others, we want to hear from you.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must complete the Camp Trailblazer’s volunteer modules prior to May 1st 2020.
  • Complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Be a positive leader and role model for campers and fellow camp staff/volunteers.
  • A desire to work with children and youth in an outdoor camp setting
  • Maintain Camp Trailblazers/Family Camp confidentiality during and after the camp
    session.

Assests Include:

  • First Aid/CPR.
  • Experience working with children with a mental health focus.
  • Focused Learning in, child and youth work, recreation, social work

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead camper through daily camp activities: scheduled programs, mealtimes, free-time,
    and evening programming alongside camp staff.
  • Follow AboutFace Guidelines and Procedures, while adhering to the sites code of
    conduct.
  • Address camper concerns and report to Camp Coordinator or Program Manager /
    Communicate with the Camp Coordinator and the Program Manager regarding any
    camper concerns.
  • Ensure camper safety throughout the week

 

Camp Nurse – Camp Trailblazers

kids with Facial Differences throughout the country again this summer!

AboutFace is looking for passionate, energetic, and reliable nurse volunteers to take on a week
at Camp Trailblazers. If you love CAMP and have a passion for supporting others, we want to
hear from you.

Qualifications:

  • Nurses, registered to practice in the same province as the camp location, and in good standing with the provincial regulatory body (i.e. professional college).
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Must complete the Camp Trailblazer’s volunteer modules by May 1st 2020.
  • Complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Be a positive leader and role model for campers and fellow camp staff/ volunteers.
  • A desire to work with children and youth in an outdoor camp setting.
  • Maintain Camp Trailblazers and Camper confidentiality

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the “On Call” Nurse for campers, staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for organizing and administering camper medication at mealtimes and
    throughout the day.
  • Review camper med forms prior to their camp session, be mindful of camper allergies,
    medication times and any other health issues/ concerns.
  • Document when medications are administered to campers including prescriptions and over the
    counter medication.
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve difficult healthcare presentations.
  • Complete Camp Trailblazer Incident Reports when needed.
  • Follow AboutFace Guidelines and Procedures, while adhering to the sites code of
    conduct.
  • Communicate with the Camp Coordinator and the Program Manager regarding any
    camper concerns.

Assets

  • Three or more years of nursing experience.
  • Recent work history in community or clinic setting and competence with triage and crisis assessment.
  • Ability to use de-escalations strategies.
  • Previous Emergency Department experience.

 

Camp Photographer – Camp Trailblazers and Family Camps

Camp Trailblazers is a week full of swimming, archery, campfires, smores, and camp songs! AboutFace is
looking for passionate, energetic, and reliable volunteers to take on the task of capturing our sessions at
Camp Trailblazers, in the role of Camp Photographer. If you love CAMP,have a passion for supporting
others and capturing the perfect photo. We would love to hear from you.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must complete the Camp Trailblazer’s volunteer modules by May 1st 2020.
  • Complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Be a positive leader and role model for campers and fellow camp staff/ volunteers.
  • A desire to work with children and youth in an outdoor camp setting.
  • Maintain Camp Trailblazers confidentiality.
  • First aid/ CPR, considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children, considered an asset.
  • Focused Learning in, child and youth work, recreation, social work, Photography and Film,
    considered an asset.

  • Address camper concerns and report to Camp Coordinator or Program Manager / Communicate
    with the Camp Coordinator and the Program Manager regarding any camper concerns.
  • Ensure camper safety throughout the week.
  • Review camper and volunteer photo release forms and be aware of participants who cannot be
    documented.
  • IF the photographer requests to use their personal camera: ONLY SD CARDS PROVIDED BY
    ABOUTFACE CAN BE USED.
