AboutFace – COVID-19 camp update – May 1

Toronto, May 1, 2020

As we move towards the summer, our thoughts of Camp Trailblazers are top of mind for AboutFace. We continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and public health requirements in various jurisdictions as part of our ongoing evaluation of the camp season.

Today, it is with great sadness that we announce Camp Trailblazers in Nova Scotia will not take place in-person this year. Alongside our partner, Brigadoon Village, this difficult decision was made with input from members of the Brigadoon medical community, public health officials, and other partners. We are working on alternative programming to support kids in the Maritimes throughout the summer – announcements on virtual camp programming will be made in early June.

In regard to our remaining four Camp Trailblazers sessions, we continue to register campers, and we are working with our camp partners to monitor public health recommendations and implement safe practices for camp. We have put in place the following deadlines, by which time we will provide a final decision on camps moving forward:

  • June 1 – Camp Trailblazers in British Columbia and Manitoba
  • July 2 – Camp Trailblazers in Ontario and Alberta.

If any camp is cancelled for any reason whatsoever, we will provide full refunds to families.

We appreciate that this is a difficult time for so many in the community. We continue to offer virtual programs where kids can connect through AboutFace Hangouts, and adults can connect through various workshops and adult networking calls. Details are available on the events page of our website.

We will continue to provide updates and our Executive Director, Danielle Griffin, is available for consultation: danielle@aboutface.ca or 416-597-2229 x24.
