From Alexis: “Hi my name is Alexis and I live in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. I love being active and do basketball, cross-country running, and choir at my school along with aerials, gymnastics, horseback riding, and track outside of school. I also do choir at our church and I am both a Cub and Girl Guide. In the summer I enjoy spending two weeks at Camp Ouareau to have fun and work on my French with lots of other girls from all over. I love traveling with my family and learning about new places – especially warm places.

I was born in Kazakhstan with a cleft lip and palate and have had five surgeries to help correct it. With complications from my palate, I have needed to work hard to be understood sometimes. I am looking forward to being on the youth advisory council of About Face to help others understand the challenges of being different.”
