Below, the 2018 AboutFace Anna Pileggi Post-Secondary Scholarship winner, Camryn, provides an update on her first year at university…
I’ve learned so much this year, far beyond the scope of what I had expected coming into university. This first year was full of challenges and new experiences, but with one year behind me, I am even more driven and passionate about nursing. I passed all my courses with As and Bs, and I am successfully moving on to next year.
This summer I am doing many things to keep me busy. I’m volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario in the McMaster Children’s Hospital, and I’m helping families while their children receive treatment. It’s a way for me to give back to families like mine, and I’m so happy to have this opportunity. I’ve also started working as a Personal Support Worker at a Nursing home/Long-term care facility, and it is such an eye-opening experience. In addition to working and volunteering, I am also a welcome week representative for the faculty of nursing for the 2019 frosh week.
I would just like to thank AboutFace again for allowing me to pursue my dreams and do my best at university!
