Hi, I’m Zachary and I’m 14.
I was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome (TCS). Everyone with TCS is affected differently.
In my case, I have a tracheostomy to help me breathe and I wear a bone-anchored hearing aid. To communicate, I use an iPad and I also use Signed English. I’m working towards eventually being able to get my trach removed.
I have been through a lot of surgeries and treatments. Luckily, I find the field of medicine fascinating!
My family is very active and we like to be on the go with activities like bike riding, exploring, and (when times are normal) travelling. I’m also passionate about music – I play piano and drums and I love listening to all different genres.
My challenges have taught me kindness, resilience, and to stay positive. I hope to one day become a doctor to help people the way I’ve been helped.
I wanted to be part of the Beyond My Face video to show that there is so much more to me than my facial difference.

Bonjour, je m’appelle Zachary et j’ai 14 ans.
Je suis né avec le syndrome de Treacher-Collins (STC). Ça se manifeste différemment pour chacun.
Dans mon cas, on a dû me faire une trachéotomie pour m’aider à respirer et je porte un appareil auditif à ancrage osseux. Je communique par le bais d’un iPad et aussi par le langage des signes anglais. Je travaille dans le but qu’un jour on puisse m’enlever ma trachéotomie.
J’ai dû subir beaucoup d’opérations et suivre de nombreux traitements. Heureusement que je trouve le domaine de la médecine fascinant!
Ma famille est très active et on aime bouger : on aime faire du vélo, explorer et (quand tout va bien) voyager. Je suis aussi passionné de musique. Je joue du piano, des percussions, et j’adore écouter tout plein de genre différents.
Les défis auxquels je dois faire face m’ont appris la gentillesse, la ténacité et à rester positif. J’espère un jour devenir médecin pour aider les gens comme on m’a aidé.
J’ai voulu participer à la vidéo Beyond My Face pour montrer que je renferme bien plus que ma différence faciale.
