Our Trailblazers Volunteers support our children, youth and family programs. Below is a brief description of our programs. For more information about our programs, please check out the Children & Youth page.
Virtual Trailblazers is our monthly online program open to kids with a facial difference and their siblings ages 6-15. Participants from all across the country come together on Zoom to participate in various activities such as arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, and science experiments.
Teens Connect is our seasonal online program for teens with a facial difference ages 15-18. Teens from all across the country come together over Zoom to participate in teen centered programs. These can include paint lounges, trivia, or boardgames.
Volunteer Role and Commitment
Scheduling permitting, volunteers are expected to volunteer three hours every six months.
Volunteers typically join us for one one-hour program a season. Programs range from arts and crafts to science experiments to Virtual Trailblazers Volunteers assist in the facilitation of our Virtual Trailblazer or Teens Connect programs. This may include leading a part of the program or engaging our participants in conversation. All program planning is completed by AboutFace Staff. Successful volunteers must complete training and any necessary paperwork before they can join a program.
Trailblazer Volunteer Qualifications and Assets
- 19 years of age or older
- Complete a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Have a desire to work with children and youth in a virtual setting
- Experience working with children with a mental health focus
- Experience in child and youth work, recreation, or social work
- Mental Health First Aid is a bonus
